Pramod C. Sogani, M.D., F.A.C.S

 

Dr. Sogani is an internationally known surgeon with expertise in the treatment of prostate, testicular, bladder, and kidney tumors. He is recognized for using a nerve-sparing technique that helps to preserve potency in prostate cancer patients, and potency and fertility in testicular cancer patients. His clinical studies have demonstrated the benefits of the drug flutamide to shrink prostate tumors before surgery.

 

Educated (MD) at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College (India) with Residencies at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital; Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital; New York University Medical Center; George Washington University Medical Center,and Fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr Sogani has more than 30 years of experience in the surgical treatment of urologic cancers at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centerand is the 2007 President of the NY Section of the AUA.
Alberto Ricardo Casabe, MD

 

Dr. Casabe graduated at Medical School of the Buenos Aires University (UBA): 12/16/1967 and is Head of the Department of Urology at the Angel H. Roffo Institute of Oncology, since 1986, up to this date. He is the Professor of Urology at the UBA and current President of the Sociedad Argentina de Urología.

 

Dr. Casabe has over 80 published works, 13 of which have received National or International Awards and he has contributed to 12 books on the subject.

 

Dr. Casabe has participated in 154 Congresses and Symposiums as Member of the Organizing Committee, Lecturer and Coordinator. He is the current President of the XLIV Argentine Congress of Urology, to be held in Buenos Aires in November 2007, and Co-President of the 105th Annual Meeting of the New York Section or the AUA in Buenos Aires.
Peter Scardino, MD

 

Dr. Scardino is recognized internationally as an expert in the early detection and surgical treatment of prostate cancer. He has pioneered techniques to decrease the effects of surgery on urinary and sexual function and to increase the chances of long term control of cancer by total removal of the prostate. Dr. Scardino and his colleagues are using modern medical informatics (artificial intelligence) to develop methods to predict the aggressiveness of prostate cancers and to determine whether some cancers may not need to be treated. His research has also focused on the identification of tissue and genetic markers that signal the behavior of a prostate cancer. He has special experience in the treatment of prostate cancers that recur after surgery or radiation therapy and is currently studying the benefits of focal, inage-guided therapy for very early cancers.
Joel Sheinfeld, MD

 

Dr. Sheinfeld is internationally recognized for his work in the clinical and surgical care of patients with testicular and bladder cancers. He has special expertise in techniques to preserve fertility in young men who develop testicular cancer. He is also studying markers that indicate the progression and recurrence of bladder cancer.
Tara C. Sharma, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.I.C.S., Diplomat American Board of Urology

 

Dr. Sharma is a professor with the Division of Preventative and Integrative Medicine with the Department of Family and Community Health and professor of surgery with the Division of Urology at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. Dr. Sharma was born in India and received his M.D. from Panjab University College in Panjab India. He came to the United States in 1963 and later to West Virginia in 1970 after completing his training at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. and Memorial Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases in New York, N.Y. Dr. Sharma is board certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow with the International College of Surgeons and American College of Surgeons. Dr. Sharma is author of several published papers, book chapter and presented several lectures nationally and internationally. Dr. Sharma has served the Huntington community for many years and has recently started the Center For Excellence in Integrative Medicine which has been an area of interest for him for many years. Dr. Sharma is a strong supporter of the Marshall University School of Medicine.
Fernando Secin, MD, PhD

 

Dr. Secin is a staff member of the Urology Section at CEMIC University Hospital and Assistant Professor of Urology at the University of Buenos Aires School of Medicine. He focuses most of his activity in Urologic Oncology and Laparoscopic Surgery.
Kathleen Kobashi, M.D.

 

Dr. Kobashi is a co-director at the Virginia Mason Medical Center Continence Center in Seattle, Washington and a clinical assistant professor at the University of Washington. She earned her medical degree from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, completed internship in general surgery at the University of California Irvine Medical Center, and did her fellowship in urinary incontinence and female urology at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. The National Association For Continence (NAFC) awarded her its' Continence Care Champion (CCC) at the the Society of Women in Urology 2006 Annual Meeting.

 

Through practice, research, writing, and presentations, Dr. Kobashi continuously challenges current technologies, such as surgical procedures and pharmacologically as they relate to incontinence. All the while, Dr. Kobashi exhibits a pragmatic approach with her work, clearly and effectively communicating to her patients and peers in the industry. She is published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, expanding on her views regarding innovative treatments for men and women.
Muhammad Choudhury, M.D., F.A.C.S.

 

Dr. Muhammad Choudhury is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Urology at New York Medical College, as well as the Director of Urological Services and the Chief of Urological Oncology at the Westchester Medical Center. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and certified by the American Board of Urology.

 

Dr. Choudhury is fellowship trained in urological oncology specializing in cancer of the prostate, bladder and kidneys. He is recognized authority in the field of urological cancer and its treatment. He is an expert in the nerve sparing techniques of prostate and bladder surgery.

 

Dr. Choudhury is widely published in this field and serves as an expert peer review editor to numerous urology journals. Dr. Choudhury will serve as the 2008 President of the NY Section of the AUA and its' annual meeting in Berlin, Germany.
Mitchell C. Benson, M.D.

 

Dr. Mitchell C. Benson began his affiliation with Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in the Autumn of 1973 when he enrolled in Columbia P&S as a first year medical student. He recognized early in his training that he wished to pursue a career in Urology and following an internship and residency in general surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York , he became a resident in Urology at The Presbyterian Hospital in New York in 1979. Following his chief residency in Urology at The Presbyterian Hospital, he went to Johns Hopkins Hospital and University where he was a Research Fellow in Urologic Oncology from 1982-1984.

 

After completion of his fellowship, Dr. Benson returned to Columbia University P&S where he joined the Urology faculty. Dr. Benson was one of the first recipients of the Herbert Irving Assistant Professor awards and he was the Herbert Irving Assistant Professor of Urology from July 1988 - June 1991. He was then promoted to Associate Professor of Urology, and in July 1995 to Professor of Urology. In 1997, he was named the George F. Cahill Professor of Urology. In November 2003, he was named the Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center of Columbia University. In August 2005, he was appointed The George F. Cahill Professor and Chairman of the Department of Urology and Urologist-in-Chief at Columbia University Medical Center.

 

During his career, Dr. Benson has been the recipient of numerous Honors. After having been elected to Phi Beta Kappa at Union College , he was awarded the Urology Prize from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. During his residency, he was awarded 1st Prize at the New York Academy of Medicine in the Ferdinand C. Valentine Resident's Essay Contest. He has won Prizes for his clinical research from the American Urological Association in 1987 and 1991.

 

Dr. Benson's research has been and continues to be supported by the National Cancer Institute and he has participated in numerous projects sponsored by the pharmaceutical industry. He has submitted or published 195 scientific articles since 1984. He has presented more than 200 papers at National Meetings.
Peter N. Schlegel, M.D., F.A.C.S.

 

Peter N. Schlegel, M.D., F.A.C.S. is Professor and Chairman of Urology and Professor of Urology; as well as Professor of Reproductive Medicine at The Weill Medical College of Cornell University; a Staff Scientist at The Population Council, Center for Biomedical Research; and a Visiting Associate Physician at The Rockefeller University Hospital. He is Urologist-in-Chief and an Attending Urologist at The New York Presbyterian Hospital.

 

Dr. Schlegel is an internationally acclaimed expert in the treatment of male infertility, especially the interface of male factor treatment with assisted reproductive techniques. His work has also clarified the importance of genetic studies in the evaluation of men with infertility. He was awarded the 1996 Established Clinician Award by The European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology. Dr. Schlegel was awarded a fellowship by the Royal College of Surgeons in 1992 for collaborative study with urologists in London, which he performed in 1993.

 

In over 150 published or submitted original manuscripts, as well as numerous book chapters and invited articles, Dr. Schlegel has described the characteristics of men who are candidates for sperm retrieval, designed and described novel techniques for sperm retrieval for use with assisted reproduction, and identified the factors that affect the successful achievement of pregnancy after sperm retrieval. He has also published extensively on microsurgical treatment of infertile men as well as on genetic aspects of infertility. More importantly, the team of scientists, reproductive endocrinologists, nurses and technicians that Dr. Schlegel has worked with at Cornell has achieved one of the highest pregnancy rates in the world for treatment of couples using sperm that were retrieved by Dr. Schlegel.

 

Dr. Schlegel is a board-certified urologist who served as a Senior Consultant in Imaging after working as Task Force Chairman on the American Board of Urology/AUA Examination Committee, which writes the exam questions that evaluates candidates for urology board certification. He is currently licensed to practice medicine in the state of New York, and graduated near the top of his class from The University of Massachusetts Medical School.
Mantu Gupta, M.D.

 

Mantu Gupta, MD, is the Director of the New York Presbyterian Kidney Stone Center and the Director of Endourology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. He is also Associate Professor of Urology at Columbia University in New York.

 

An honors graduate of Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Dr. Gupta went on to become Chief Resident at the University of California’s Department of Urology and subsequently became a Fellow in Endourology and Laparoscopic Surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York.

 

Dr. Gupta serves on the review panel and editorial board of numerous publications, including the Journal of Endourology, the Journal of Urology, the Indian Journal of Urology, and Urology.

 

The recipient of numerous honors and awards, Dr. Gupta has served as a visiting professor both within the United States and throughout the world. He is a frequent lecturer and moderator at national and international meetings and has published extensively in major peer-reviewed journals and authored innumerable book chapters. . Additionally, Dr. Gupta teaches various surgical skills courses throughout the world and has served as editor and guest editor for numerous publications.

 

Dr. Gupta’s professional memberships include the American Urological Association, the New York Section of the American Urological Association (AUA), the Endourology Society, the Society of Practitioners, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.
