Philip M. Hanno, MD
Philip M. Hanno, MD, MPH is a Professor of Urology in the Division of Urology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Medical Director of the Department of Clinical Effectiveness and Quality Assurance of the University of Pennsylvania Health System. He has been Chief of the Division of Urology of the Philadelphia Veterans Administration Medical Center, a Professor of Urology at the University of Pennsylvania, Professor and Chair of the Department of Urology at Temple University School of Medicine, and a Medical Officer in the Division of Reproductive and Urologic Drugs in the Food and Drug Administration.

He is currently on the FDA urology advisory committee. He has an interest in interstitial cystitis and female urology, and is Co-Chair of the Medical Advisory Board of the Interstitial Cystitis Association. He is Chair of the Audiovisual Committee of the American Urological Association and a member of the Program Committee and Education Council of the AUA as well.

Jørgen Nordling, MD, Dr.Med.Sci, FEBU
Dr Jørgen Nordling received his undergraduate and medical degrees from The University of Copenhagen Denmark. He had his medical and urological education in hospitals at the Copenhagen area and made his thesis at the Dept. of Urology at Herlev Hospital. He became a consultant at the dept. of Urology at Herlev Hospital in 1986 and a professor of Urology at the University of Copenhagen in the year 2000.

He is a member of the Danish Urological Society, the Nordic Urologic Association, European Association of Urology, Socité International de Urolgié, the International Continence Society. He is also an overseas member of the American Urological Association and chairman of ESSIC (European Society for the Study of Bladder Pain Syndrome / Interstitial Cystitis).

Dr Nordlings research has mainly been in lower urinary tract dysfunction including BPO and incontinence and in the last years in bladder pain syndrome


Leroy M, Nyberg Jr., PhD, MD
Dr. Leroy Nyberg is the Director of Urology Research Programs and Senior Urology Advisor at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, U.S.A. He completed his general surgery and urology residency training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He is certified in Adult and Pediatric Urology by the American Board of Urology.

He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (Medical Honor Society) and Society of Sigma Xi (Scientific Honor Society). He was a Medical Officer in the United States Navy and was director of a Urology Clinic in a field hospital in Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. He has published over 200 articles and abstracts.

AREAS OF RESEARCH AND CLINICAL INTEREST: The urologic chronic pelvic pain syndromes including interstitial cystitis and chronic prostatitis; benign prostate prostate growth, development and regulation; BPH; urinary incontinence in men and women; neurourology, stone disease, and the epidemiology of urological diseases.

Arndt van Ophoven, MD, PhD, Ass. Professor of Urology
Dr. Arndt van Ophoven received his medical degree from the University of Muenster in 1995. He started his carrier at the Dept. of Urology at the University of Bochum. In 2002 he obtained a German specialist degree in Urology. Earlier from 1998 to 1999 he had become postdoctoral research fellow at the Dept. of Urology, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). Hereafter he started working at the Dept of Urology, University Hospital of Muenster. In 2004 he became head of the section of neurourology at the University of Muenster and headed the newly established local Centre for Continence Care. In February 2008 he was appointed to Senior Physician in the Department of Urology at the University Teaching Hospital in Oberhausen, located in Germany’s busy Ruhr area.

He is a member of many national and international societies including the International Continence Society, the Society for Infection and Inflammation in Urology, and the European Society for the Study of BPS/IC (ESSIC).

SYNOPSIS OF AREA OF INTEREST: Dr. van Ophoven’s clinical activities and research interests focus on the treatment of urogenital inflammation, pelvic pain syndromes and voiding dysfunction, including OAB. Evaluation of innovative pharmacological as well as conservative treatment approaches for these conditions with special emphasis on clinical trials round off his profile.

Christopher K. Payne, MD. Associate Professor of Urology. Stanford University Medical School

Christopher Payne grew up in West Virginia and attended undergraduate school at the University of Virginia where he received a BA degree in Chemistry with a minor in English. He attended Vanderbilt University for medical school after which he completed a urology residency at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Female Urology, Urodynamics, and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery at UCLA in 1992-1993. He was recruited to Stanford University in August 1993 to initiate a new program in Female Urology and NeuroUrology and he has served continuously on the faculty since then. Dr. Payne is nationally recognized as a leader on issues in female urology having served on NIH advisory/oversight panels on urinary incontinence and interstitial cystitis and his expertise in clinical research has been recognized through two NIH grants principal investigator grants focusing on treatment of interstitial cystitis. Tomohiro Ueda, MD, PhD. Urologist. Clinical Professor, Department of Urology, Kyoto City Hospital, Japan
Founder Member of SICJ (Society of Interstitial Cystitis of Japan) President of CUN (Comfortable Urology Network) in Japan Organizer of the 1st International Consultation on Interstitial Cystitis Japan (ICICJ) in 2003 and 2nd ICICJ in 2007, both held in Kyoto.

Alex Tong-Long Lin, MD, PhD
Alex Tong-Long Lin is Professor of Urology at the National Yang Ming University in Taiwan and is a Visiting Urologist at the Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Taiwan. He completed his medical degree at Taipei Medical College in 1978, his postgraduate training at Taiwan Veterans General Hospital, and a doctorate and further postgraduate studies at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, National Yang Ming University, Taiwan.

Professor Lin’s basic research and clinical research has focused on the treatment of lower urinary tract dysfunction, nocturia, outlet obstruction, and mitochondrial enzyme activity in the urinary bladder.

Professor Lin served as the President of the Taiwanese Continence Society from 2000 to 2006, and a Council Member of the Taiwan Urological Society, Taiwan Andrology Association, and Pan-Pacific Continence Society. He has been a Committee Member for the first and third International Consultation on Incontinence. Professor Lin serves as a reviewer for journals including Journal of Urology, Urology, and Neurology & Urodynamics.

SYNOPSIS OF AREA OF INTEREST: Dr. Lin’s research interests include urogenital pharmacology and physiology, clinical trials and clinical researches in functional urology.
